Olde Burley Bear flake or "Bear bark"
This is a very special "burley bark" (flake) that true burley lovers appreciate. A full, warm, nutty flake of burley and brown virginia. Very straightforward, and no frills. Testers have also mentioned some wisps of cocoa, however (and I received a question about this) there is no cocoa top dressing added here. As well as hints (just hints) of allspice, anise, and of course bready virginia. The burley is not harsh and is mellowed and rounded. A total of around 45g. This was a very special collaboration Sutliff via Danpipe before they closed, and was not pressed in house. There WILL be several restocks of this as time allows with other projects.

I agree with everything in the prior review (by Stanley)—especially the part about wishing I’d ordered more! This blend is masterful, from the components to the cut. It arrived moist but I couldn’t wait so my first bowl was undried, and it was divine. One of the best Burley flakes I’ve ever had, and that’s a blend type I favor.
Dry, nutty, vegetation. Spice is in the retrohale. I get it in the nostrils not so much on the tongue. Toasty, rather mellow on my pallet. Has a really nice nutty, almond, vegetation flavor. A slightest touch of molasses sweetness. Sometimes I get a very faint mushroom note in there too similar to semois. I taste no top note from this but despite that it’s not harsh or spicy on my tongue. Consistent toasty nutty almond like vegetative flavor to the end. Will buy again!
This stuff is right in my wheelhouse! I'm never been one to describe a particular blend as having exotic hints of this or that. I just know that I really like this, and I can't wait till I can buy more of it. Simple and uncomplicated. Just delicious real tobacco flavor. Medium to full body. When you get a thing right, you don't need dressing or toppings. This one's a keeper. Bought two tins. Should've bought many more. Please let us know when you restock this wonderful smoke!
What a great blend, I wish I had ordered more of this. I love burley blends and this one is a rich, full bodied flake blend. It burns evenly and to the bottom. It maintains its flavor to the end. Hats off to Mr Ravenwood for an excellent blend.
